Lorenzo Mocchiutti’s idea took shape amongst the vineyards of Vignai da Duline alongside Federica Magrini, where their knowledge of the local area is transformed into tangible experience every day.

Following a trip to Burgundy in 2008, his interest in cartography turned into a passion, shared with Luca Gremese, a historian and graphic designer with an eclectic touch. Together, they began to imagine something unprecedented: a map capable of representing the three hilly DOCs of Friuli Venezia Giulia at a single glance, from the sea to the pre-Alpine hinterland. A living, complex territory, anything but uniform and fascinating precisely for that reason. To achieve this, Gremese developed an innovative method that allows even the most scattered and fragmented vineyards to be represented, capturing the true fabric of the landscape.

In 2024, with the arrival of managing partner Luca Devetta, RADICAL MAPS was founded, with the aim of finally putting years of study and research on vineyards, soils and the regional climate onto paper. The project grew thanks to the collaboration with Geo-Mok, led by geologist Andrea Mocchiutti, agronomist and soil scientist Davide Mosetti, and Erica Magnis, an agricultural and IT expert.

The vision behind the project was first outlined in 2022 in an illustrated article published in Tiere Furlane no. 34, published by the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region.
